State-of-the-art TETRA & LTE communication system for new line 7 of Metro Santiago de Chile

The project for Line 7 of the Santiago Metro is one of the largest infrastructure plans in Latin America in recent years and includes an approximate extension of 26 kilometers distributed in 19 stations that will benefit more than 1.36 million inhabitants, and it will cover the communes of Renca, Cerro Navia, Quinta Normal, Santiago, Providencia, Las Condes and Vitacura in a time of 37 minutes, constituting an important solution to relieve traffic congestion in the capital.

Within the scope of the project, HMF will deploy a TETRA ACCESSNET®-T IP network, a private broadband network (RBA) under the 3GPP mission critical LTE standard (European wireless communication standard), TETRA on-board equipment, LTE on-board equipment, TETRA handheld terminals, intelligent dispatch consoles, and a communication recording system; as well as provide ten years of maintenance, service level 3 support provided by the manufacturer and spare parts.

The solution provided by HMF will be implemented in stations, tunnels, workshops, and garages with the aim of guaranteeing operational and emergency communications under the highest encryption and cybersecurity standards. As part of the Line 7 implementation, HMF will deploy an RBA under 3GPP r15 (European wireless communication standard) mission critical standards that covers the needs of data transfer from CCTV, SAP and SIP trains, data from the Maintenance, Repair & Operations (MRO) itself efficiently and without degradation in the tunnels, workshops, and depots towards the equipment on the ground, allowing in turn the traffic of the operational services connected to the Mission Critical Network. This project is a pioneer in the region and will have a state-of-the-art LTE 3GPP topology, developed and manufactured by Hytera.

The railway layout will be fully linked to the other metro lines, as well as to the emergency and security systems under the interoperability offered by open standards and Hytera applications Metro de Santiago has relied on HMF to supply its communications systems under the TETRA standard on its 6 lines, guaranteeing TETRA communications in more than 136 Metro stations that provide on average daily service to more than 2.4 million passengers. This project, as well as others in the region, have chosen HMF’s TETRA ACCESSNET®-T IP and LTE 3GPP MCx for their highest level of robustness, security, and availability.
