AIoT solutions from Innodisk for electric vehicles and smart city

According to Statista, the leading German online portal for statistics from market and opinion research institutions, around 30 billion devices worldwide were connected to the IoT in 2020. This number is expected to grow to 75 billion by 2025. A large amount of data is generated in the process, but much of it is not used. The reasons for this are outdated processes and slow data processing systems. The solution to this problem lies in the combination of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), which is now globally referred to as AIoT. IoT systems consist largely of sensor devices that collect data and send it to the cloud via mostly wireless connections. The task of artificial intelligence is to analyse all the collected data, interpret it and decide which data is important for the cloud and which remains at the point of origin – in the Edge – and is processed there directly or deleted because it is not necessary. Innovation drivers are the areas of 5G, networking, infrastructure and automation.

To take account of this development in the combination of IoT and AI, Innodisk joined forces with its subsidiaries in 2021. The aim was to pool expertise to offer industrial customers a complete AIoT ecosystem. This resulted in the "AIoT All-Round Service". Here, Innodisk integrates its high-performance, industrial-grade memory and storage products and embedded peripherals into AIoT solutions that can withstand strong vibrations and harsh outdoor environments, such as in robots and electric vehicles. AI robots are becoming more and more important. They have proven their worth as transporters during the pandemic in hotels, hospitals and airports, as they reduce direct human contact and at the same time reduce the workload of staff. Here, Innodisk is working closely with high-tech Smart Services companies to integrate SSDs into AI robots to ensure reliable operation. In electric vehicles, the electronics are exposed to strong vibration and high temperatures. Here, the limits of standard products are usually exceeded. For example, an international manufacturer of electric trucks uses Innodisk’s DRAM modules and flash memory, as well as the GPS tracker from its subsidiary Antzer, and benefits from AI technology. At the same time, pollutants and noise emissions are reduced.

"We’re confident that the increase in AIoT applications will continue thriving through 2022, especially for electric vehicles and smart city applications," said Eric Chang, special assistent at Innodisk. " Electric vehicles like buses, trucks, logistics, and fleet management will all see growth. Smart cities are also in focus as more countries invest in technology construction to harness AIoT and smart cities, including intelligent street lamps and surveillance systems. Innodisk is well-prepared for these technological advancements and has set a goal to build an Intelligent World”, Chang added.

In 2020, approximately 30 billion devices were connected to the IoT. This number will increase to 75 billion devices by 2025. This generates data that is often not processed. With AIoT, the combination of IoT and AI, the data collected via sensors is analysed and interpreted. A decision is then made whether to keep the data in the Edge, send it to the cloud or delete it. Innodisk and its subsidiaries offer customers a complete AIoT ecosystem called "AIoT All-Round Service". In this, Innodisk integrates its high-performance, industrial-grade memory and storage products and embedded peripherals into AIoT solutions that can withstand strong vibrations and harsh outdoor environments, such as in robots and electric vehicles. AI robots are gaining more and more importance and have proven their worth during the pandemic by reducing direct human contact while reducing staff workload. In electric vehicles, the electronics are exposed to strong vibration and high temperatures, and standard products usually exceed the limits. That’s why it’s innate to use Innodisk’s DRAM modules and flash memory in electric vehicles, as well as the GPS tracker from its subsidiary Antzer.
