The goal of this partnership is to bring together and share the expertise and know-how of each association in the field of digital health, with a particular focus on the challenges related to market access for digital therapeutic medical devices (DTx), telemonitoring, and health data management. This partnership aims to develop and structure the Franco-German digital health market and, on a larger scale, to promote the growth of digital health in Europe.
For Stéphane Tholander, co-coordinator of the digital health commission and special advisor to the presidency of France Biotech: „With this in mind, our ambition is to create a bridge between the two associations through mutual membership, the organization of joint events aimed at better understanding the functioning of each respective market, and strengthening the ties between European digital health entrepreneurs.“
For Franck Mouthon, President of France Biotech: „We have a European market with great potential that requires adjustments and effective coordination. We are also determined to extend this collaboration to other European countries such as Italy and Spain, in order to build a strong Europe in the field of digital health. The European patient is at the center of our concerns.“
„Our collaboration will save time in understanding each market and also in knowing what is transferable from one country to another and what requires harmonization. The idea is also to benefit from an efficient ecosystem such as networks of entrepreneurs and exchange of best practices around the care pathway. Together, with our French colleagues, we will facilitate access to innovation for patients in France and Germany,“ explains Dr. Paul Hadrossek, President of Spitzenverband Digitale Gesundheitsversorgung.
Together to Build the Foundations of the European Digital Health Market
Digital Therapeutics (DTx), which allows for the prevention, management, and treatment of medical disorders through digital therapeutic interventions, are becoming an essential element of overall health. The German DTx market is well developed with about fifty players involved in the DiGA (Digital Health Apps) rapid reimbursement scheme. Conversely, telemonitoring is less developed in Germany than in France, where it is now included in common law and where the anticipated digital health coverage scheme (PECAN) should allow for the rapid arrival of new telemonitoring and DTx solutions.
To build a European digital health market, it is imperative to lift certain regulatory or technical barriers to allow European patients to quickly benefit from the latest innovations. This market structuring will lead to economies of scale, also reducing costs for health systems, and will promote the emergence of start-ups in the digital health sector in France and Germany.
Furthermore, both countries face similar challenges related to the aging population, the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases, and mental health disorders.
By combining the dynamic forces of 170 German companies and 200 French companies, this strategic partnership aims to strengthen Europe‘s position on the global digital health stage.
