Damen Naval Signs Contract with AERIUS Marine GmbH for F126 Frigates‘ Fire Fighting System

Damen Naval has signed a contract with Hamburg-based AERIUS Marine GmbH for their cutting-edge Fire Fighting Systems to be installed on the four new F126 frigates. The collaboration underscores Damen Naval’s commitment to involve as many German companies in the project as possible.

“We are excited to announce that we have found another German partner for our prestigious F126 project,” explains Dirk Henneberg, F126 Project Procurement Manager. “We are committed to finding the best systems, equipment, and components for the vessels and we believe AERIUS Marine’s fire protection systems will guarantee the safety and security of the vessel’s crew and equipment.”

Under the terms of this contract, AERIUS Marine GmbH will be responsible for the design, delivery, and supervision of an advanced firefighting system tailored to meet the requirements of the F126 frigates. This system will incorporate cutting-edge technologies in fire detection, suppression, and control.

"We are honoured to have been chosen by Damen Naval for the F126 Frigate program,” states Klaus Aulich, Business Development Director at AERIUS Marine GmbH. “Our team is committed to delivering a firefighting system that not only meets but exceeds expectations, ensuring the safety of the F126 Frigates and their dedicated crews. This contract validates our standing as a leading provider of innovative fire protection solutions for maritime applications. We eagerly anticipate a fruitful collaboration with Damen Naval and the opportunity to showcase the capabilities of our advanced firefighting systems."

AERIUS Marine GmbH boasts an excellent reputation for its design, assembly, selection of the components and supply as well as commissioning of maritime HVAC solutions as well as for piping, refrigeration, and fire protection. “This partnership with Damen Naval and AERIUS Marine GmbH stands as a testament to the dedication of both our organisations to deliver excellence in maritime safety and protection,” adds Mr. Aulich.

Made in Germany

In June 2020, the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) awarded the construction contract for the four F126 frigates to Damen Naval as the general contractor. The Dutch shipbuilder will work closely with key subcontractors Blohm+Voss Shipyards GmbH and Thales Netherlands B.V. in planning and building the four frigates.  All four ships will be constructed entirely in Germany at shipyards in Wolgast, Kiel and Hamburg, with the first frigate scheduled for delivery in 2028.
