Mining has been practiced in Saskatchewan, Canada for more than 100 years. Today, it is one of the world’s leading mining locations.
According to the annual survey by the renowned Fraser Institute, Saskatchewan is the third best mining region in the world. And it is also home to many successful companies. Due to the long mining history, there are experienced and highly qualified miners on site and the infrastructure is also good.
One company active in Saskatchewan is Foran Mining. The company owns nine properties in eastern Saskatchewan, including the McIlvenna Bay deposit and the Tesla zone in the Flin Flon Greenstone Belt. The Company also owns the Bigstone deposit, a resource development stage deposit located 25 km southwest of the McIlvenna Bay property. The McIlvenna Bay deposit is a copper, zinc, gold and silver rich VHMS deposit. The Flin Flon Greenstone Belt is one of the most prolific mining belts on earth. There are more than 25 active mines, mostly producing copper, zinc and associated precious metals such as gold and silver.
Saskatchewan is of course also famous for its high-quality uranium deposits. 25 percent of the uranium mined worldwide comes from there. One of the most productive and highest yielding uranium mines is the Cigar Lake mine, which is also the largest uranium mine. Today, uranium is a key raw material, especially for countries that are dependent on nuclear energy and need to cover their domestic energy requirements. The uranium mining sector is small, with only ten companies accounting for around 91% of global uranium mining production in 2022.
IsoEnergy – https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/isoenergy-ltd/ – has outstanding uranium projects in various stages of development in Canada, Australia, Argentina and the USA. Particularly noteworthy is the Larocque East project in the Athabasca Basin in Saskatchewan, which is being driven forward at full speed. This project contains the Hurricane deposit. This contains the world’s highest grade indicated uranium mineral resource.
