PCX Solutions was the first organization in the world to publish a standard for reducing and offsetting plastic waste in February 2020. The PPRS standard provides the framework for a credible and verifiable system for the collection, transport, processing and recycling of plastic waste. The aim is to prevent such waste from being released into the environment.
PPRS projects generate plastic credits that are recorded in the blockchain-based registry of PCX Solutions. The credits can be purchased by companies that want to take responsibility for their plastic footprint either voluntarily or under mandatory schemes, such as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programmes.
TÜV SÜD South Asia has been accredited by PCX Solutions as a Validation and Verification Body (VVB) for the PPRS standard. Conformity assessment by an independent VVB is a prerequisite for projects to be included in the PCX register and for the Plastic Credits generated to be recognised, in order to create credibility and trust.
“I am extremely proud to be a part of this transparent and credible process that brings new levels of trust to the critical and relatively new field of plastic credits for a diverse array of stakeholders”, adds Bratin Roy, Global Head of Decarbonization at TÜV SÜD.
“I am very pleased that we can contribute to reducing plastic waste as an accredited VVB of the PPRS standard," says Oswal Kuhsboo, Business Line Manager Climate Action Certification at TÜV SÜD. “The combination of a blockchain-based registry and an independent assessment of the projects ensures high transparency and credibility of the entire process.”
“We are excited to welcome a credible and reputable organization such as TÜV SÜD, as a partner and collaborator in our mission to accelerate the transition to the circular economy and build a future where no plastic ends up in nature. VVBs are an integral part of our PPRS in ensuring that we achieve real impact and full transparency and accountability”, says Managing Director of PCX Solutions, Stefanie Beitien.
