One of the largest and most state-of-the-art biomethane plants in Europe has been under construction in the district of Cloppenburg since mid-2022. As of the first quarter of 2024, nordfuel GmbH is the operator of a flagship plant in terms of capacity, sustainability, and regionality. The plant in Friesoythe recycles up to one million tons of surplus biomass in the form of slurry and manure from farms in the region every year. The biomethane produced is fed into the natural gas grid or processed into the sustainable fuel "bio-LNG".
The new evaporation plant from GIG Karasek is based on the principle of mechanical vapor recompression (MVR). It will be used after fermentation of the biomass and after separation of the fermentation residue for concentration in the liquid phase. The concentrated liquid phase is used as fertilizer, while the evaporated portion can be reused in various processes in the biomethane plant.
To ensure the project parameters, joint tests were carried out in advance in GIG Karasek’s technical center. Samples of the liquid phase were tested and key values, such as the maximum achievable solids content, were defined.
The scope of delivery includes design, manufacture, and installation. Installation will start in the 2nd quarter of 2024.
