Innodisk’s DDR5 RDIMM supports automatic optical inspection (AOI) of semiconductors

The need for automatic optical inspection (AOI) systems to detect defects in the production of semiconductors has grown dramatically as device demand increases and packaging densities become smaller. AOI systems are now used in every step of the semiconductor manufacturing process and their stability is very important for production efficiency.

Innodisk offers a solution to the problems of applications of this AOI inspection. In this regard, Innodisk’s DDR5 series DRAMs play a key role in a wide range of AOI applications. Modern AOI systems face the three core problems of memory bandwidth, accuracy and high temperature. DDR5 RDIMM (Registered Memory) from Innodisk contribute to their solution. Commercially available consumer DRAMs have too many shortcomings in this context.

Due to the high memory bandwidth required to recognize the different models, AOI systems often have problems when using lower capacity modules. Innodisk’s DDR5 RDIMM solves this problem with large capacities, including 32GB and 64GB modules.

With semiconductor process accuracy down to the nanometer level, the resolution and accuracy requirements of AOI systems are very high. Innodisk’s DDR5 RDIMM features a new dual 40-bit sub-channel architecture and includes strict side-band ECC to meet AOI’s high accuracy requirements.

The high-speed, high-precision testing that AOI systems provide generates high amounts of heat at the DRAM level, which can lead to a sharp increase in overall system temperature. Innodisk’s DDR5 RDIMM addresses these thermal issues through a two-pronged strategy that includes both hardware and software integration. Two thermal sensors on the modules detect the ambient temperature and two software tools, iCAP (Innodisk Cloud Administration Platform) and iSMART, monitor temperatures and send alerts.

Although storage technology is constantly evolving, observation of the current situation in the industry shows that customer requirements for technologies vary widely, and previous product lines are still being used. Therefore, Innodisk offers not only the industrial-grade DDR5 and DDR4 products, but also older products such as DDR3, DDR2, DDR and SDRAM. These memory modules are still offered at stable prices, with original ICs and with longevity support.
