Partner to the global semiconductor industry-20 years of DOCK/CHEMICALS in Marburg

It was exactly 20 years ago today that the Behringwerke industrial park in Marburg became home to Dockweiler Chemicals GmbH. Growing rapidly over the years, the manufacturer of highest-purity chemicals today supplies the semiconductor industry all over the world from Germany.

In 2002 the company—originally a spin-off of the Philipps University in Marburg, Germany—was sold to the multinational AkzoNobel company and moved into building M217 of Behringwerke. Dockweiler Chemicals GmbH was founded in 2006 and has since become a preferred partner to global chip manufacturers and an exclusive specialist in process chemicals marketed under the brand name DOCK/CHEMICALS. The company manufactures special chemicals for semiconductors that can be found as microchips in high-end technologies such as smartphones, computers, televisions and refrigerators. Their production requires special chemicals with an extremely high level of purity—worldwide, only a few chemical companies are able to deliver this top quality.

Perfect site for high-tech companies

“It is a story of successful cooperation built on a foundation of mutual trust,” says Thomas Görge, CEO of Pharmaserv GmbH, landlord of the Behringwerke campus. “We congratulate Dockweiler and all employees on this anniversary and look forward to many more years of working together!” The operator of the Behringwerke site provides Dockweiler and other companies in Marburg with buildings and infrastructure, as well as a comprehensive range of technical and logistics services. “It is paramount to us that we can offer Dockweiler an environment conducive to growth, with access at all times to the services it needs. We feel privileged that we are able to contribute to the company’s growth in this way.”

Exclusive specialist supplier

Today, DOCK/’s process chemicals are extensively used all over the world. “Global megatrends such as digitalization and the energy transition are driving up the demand for ever smaller, faster and more powerful processors and storage media,” explains Dr. Jörg Koch, doctorate physicist, shareholder and one of the managing directors of Dockweiler Chemicals. “Our innovative chemicals form the basis for a range of future technologies.”

Supplier of multinationals

Primary markets, besides the semiconductor industry, are the LED, photovoltaics, electronics and energy sectors, including prestigious multinational companies such as IBM, Intel, Samsung, Osram and Philips. Moreover, Dockweiler Chemicals products are used in modern radar systems, laser technology and sensors. “Thanks to our local manufacturing site in the state of Hesse and our strategically beneficial location at the heart of Europe, we are able to guarantee short delivery times—a key competitive factor, especially at a time where many supply chains are suffering some form of disruption and the semiconductor industry has rediscovered Europe as a prime location,” explains Dr. Arnd Greiling, co-founder and managing shareholder of Dockweiler Chemicals.
