PELOBiotech: Biopolymer inspired by spider silk for 3D Cell Culture, Bioprinting and Cultured Meat

Martinsried – PELOBiotech GmbH, one of the leading Cell Culture solution experts worldwide, is happy to introduce SpheroSeev & HydroSeev, recombinant biopolymers similar to spider silk. They are produced by Seevix, an Israelian biotech company, and can be used together with hydrogels (e.g. Matrigel) to stabilize hydrogels for long-term culture. “As the need for long-term cell culture is rising and consistent and reproducible results are needed,” says Dr. Peter Frost, CEO PELOBiotech, “we are happy to ease the path for this easy, outstanding solution to the European scientific community.“ Therefore PELOBiotech is strengthening its position as 3D cell culture specialist and widening its broad portfolio of solution-demanded 3D cell culture tools.

Seevix products mimic natural tissue morphology and cell behavior for purposes of hepatotoxicity & ADME-Tox, drug discovery, stem cell research, cancer research, tissue engineering & 3D bioprinting and cultured meat. The fibers’ nano and microarchitecture mimic the natural Extracellular Matrix (ECM), providing a tissue-like environment for cells.

The highly porous structure enables better access to oxygen and nutrients, thereby reducing the necrotic core and supporting prolonged viability and functionality. High strength and elasticity provide mechanical cushioning and protection to individual cells within the organoid. The large surface area enables the delivery of active ingredients to the core of the spheroids.

About Seevix:
Seevix Material Sciences is a biotech company founded in 2014 and operating in the synthetic biology and bio-industrial sector. It produces high-strength patented SVX™ spider silk by means of unique recombinant DNA technologies, which allow it to replicate the natural process of spider silk creation. Its product is animal-free, vegan, eco-friendly and sustainable. Using SVX, Seevix generates novel materials whose high-performance properties, sustainability and biocompatibility can radically improve existing products and provide solutions for unmet needs in many industries, such as cosmetics, textiles, sports, consumer healthcare, medical devices and scaffolds for tissue modeling and cultured meat.
