Film London and B3, Frankfurt sign Memorandum of Understanding, strengthening creative collaboration

  • Partnership announced during the B3 Biennial of the Moving Image
  • Supporting and showcasing IP and contemporary artist filmmaking

Film London and The B3 Biennial of the Moving Image (B3) will sign a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) in Frankfurt on 16th October 2021 to recognise and enhance the ongoing spirit of collaboration between the two cities, helping to support and cross-promote respective IP and artist filmmaking projects.

Over the last three years Film London and B3 have participated together in a series of cultural exchanges, panel sessions, talent showcasing and industry market intelligence. Building upon this existing creative collaboration, the MOU will engage in particular with Film London’s IP Market UPstream, and continue to work with Film London’s Artists’ Moving Image Network (FLAMIN), scoping out opportunities for cross-promotion and pooling knowledge.

Film London’s UPstream is an innovative IP Market that facilitates pitches and meetings between IP holders presenting new and exciting IP projects and UK Film and TV production companies, sales agents, distributors and publishers. UPstream and B3 will work in partnership to create a bridge for IP talent participating at B3 in October 2021 to attend UPstream online in February 2022, with a series of panel events and one-to-one meetings in the run up.

With the increasing visibility of artist-filmmaking in mainstream culture through streaming and virtual exhibitions, the MOU will strengthen the already established partnership between B3 and FLAMIN. This will include a continuation in programme consultations, introductions to filmmakers, annual screenings of FLAMIN work, and participation in the B3 Biennial of the Moving Image.

Adrian Wootton OBE, Chief Executive of Film London and the British Film Commission, said:
“London and its dynamic and diverse screen industries are open for business, and this MOU is very much part of our continuing international partnerships. This is a natural progression from our already established relationship with B3, strengthening our commitment to creative collaboration. We look forward working with Frankfurt throughout the year ahead to exchange invaluable industry know-how and cross-promote some of the world’s most exciting and original talent, sharing bold and diverse stories that have the potential to be turned into world-class film, TV and thought-provoking artist moving image.”

Prof. Bernd Kracke, President of the Offenbach University of Design,
Artistic Director of the B3 Biennale of the Moving Image, said:
“As a festival for moving image and cross-media content, B3 has always been a springboard for new talent. Many of the talents discovered by B3 are now established artists and filmmakers, and many are on their way. We see the expansion of our cooperation with Film London and UPstream as an opportunity to promote special talents even more and to pave the way for them in a targeted and fast way. We are very much looking forward to more exciting and fruitful collaborations in the years to come.”
