New Android Automotive Test Automation Cooperation by Unikie and Qentinel

Software technology companies Unikie and Qentinel have begun collaboration on automation testing of software solutions for the Automotive industry. Unikie develops technology for automotive OEM’s and Tier 1 operators. Qentinel is a leading provider of robotic software testing solutions.

Best of two worlds – Scale and speed of cloud and security of local development

The automotive OEM’s have flagged challenges in testing their own devices securely in the cloud. Meanwhile, local testing has lacked scalability and resources. With a solution built on Qentinel Pace, an automation tool developed by Qentinel, OEM devices can be tested in a cloud-based manner. Automation can be conducted for applications testing both on the software level and over the cloud by controlling a physical robot using the car’s display interface.

The collaboration will initially include test automation around Android Automotive applications, a field where both companies have vast experience. Qentinel provides the cloud-based Android Automotive compatible Qentinel Pace platform. Industry and technology experts at Unikie utilize their experience in building and delivering customer and application-specific solutions. Together they enable test automation for Android Automotive, which can be up and running for the customer in less than a day.

"Delivering high-quality applications and solutions to our Automotive customers is the key behind Unikies’ success and we put a lot of emphasis on Quality Assurance. Testing is an important part of QA and this is why we recommend our customers implementing Qentinel Pace test automation for their applications. Android Automotive is a good example of a development platform which can greatly benefit from our test automation solution,” says Vesa Kiviranta, Chief Business Officer of Commercial Automotive at Unikie.

"We can now combine scale and speed of cloud with the security of local development when automating development and testing of Android Automotive applications. Android Automotive applications testing can be automated on the software level or taken beyond so that a hardware robot is testing the application on the level of an actual human user. We are committed to working with Unikie because they offer many innovative solutions to the Automotive industry," says Jari Leskinen, Director of Customer Success at Qentinel.

Android Automotive is a base Android platform. It runs pre-installed In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) system Android applications as well as optional second- and third-party Android Applications.

Android Automotive offers openness, customization, and scale to automotive infotainment systems and head units. Openness enables new efficiencies by providing basic automotive infotainment features in a free and open-source codebase. Customization enables implementers to differentiate the product as they see fit. Scale is achieved through Android’s common framework, language, and APIs, all of which enable reuse of development expertise and complete software from hundreds of thousands of Android developers worldwide.
