The goal of Catena-X is to create a uniform standard for data exchange along the entire automotive value chain. The IDS standard is the blueprint for data exchange based on European values, such as data protection and security, equal opportunities through a federated design and the guarantee of data sovereignty for the creator of data and trust between participants. With the IDS standard as the essential infrastructure basis, Catena-X will be an extensible ecosystem in which automotive manufacturers and suppliers, dealer associations and equipment suppliers, including the providers of applications, platforms and infrastructure, can all participate equally.
The data network will create an important starting point for the industry to respond more efficiently to the challenges of digital transformation and to make better use of the opportunities offered by digitalization. It will increase the automotive industry’s competitiveness, improve efficiency through cooperation and accelerate company processes through standardization and access to data.
The partner network Catena-X includes BMW AG, Deutsche Telekom AG, Robert Bosch GmbH, SAP SE, Siemens AG, ZF Friedrichshafen AG, Mercedes-Benz AG and Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e. V.
The International Data Spaces Association (IDSA) has defined a reference architecture and a global standard for creating and operating virtual data spaces. The IDS Architecture is based on commonly recognized data governance models facilitating secure exchange and easy linkage of data within business ecosystems. IDSA is a non-profit association with currently more than 120 members from numerous companies, organizations and research institutes across 20 countries.
