- World premiere: World’s first electric rally one-make cup starts in May 2021
- Eight rounds: As part of DRM, national events and the ERC
- Timetable: Registrations begin in January, delivery of vehicles in March
The ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup will kick off its first season in May 2021. The schedule for the first all battery-electric rally one-make cup is set. In December, further successful rally simulations took place to prepare for the season. So the Opel Corsa-e Rally will be delivered to the customer teams in March as planned.
Eight qualifying rounds are scheduled for the ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup in its first season, half of which will take place as part of the German Rally Championship (DRM). In addition, there are three competitions at Rallye 70 events, national one-day events covering 70 special stage kilometres. A particular highlight awaits the Opel teams on the last weekend in August, when the e-racers take to the track in front of an international audience at the tradition-rich Barum Rally, the Czech round of the European Rally Championship around Zlín.
Cup participants will have the opportunity to get to know their Opel Corsa-e Rally at an exclusive test event in April before the season kicks off with the ADAC Rallye “Rund um die Sulinger Bärenklaue” on May 7-8. Delivery of the customer vehicles to the teams is scheduled for March 2021. The purchase price for an Opel Corsa-e Rally ready for action is €49,900 (plus VAT).
Registration for the ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup 2021 will start on January 15, 2021. Those who register by February 12 will pay a reduced registration fee of €5,900 (plus VAT). This includes all entry fees for the 2021 Cup season, access to Cup hospitality for four team members, race suits plus team wear for driver and co-driver, a service tent with floor tarpaulin and free charging of the Opel Corsa-e Rally throughout the season. After February 12, 2021, the registration fee will be €7,500 (plus VAT). All registrations already submitted in the course of 2020 remain valid.
Already familiar from the successful years of the ADAC Opel Rally Cup, the participants can look forward to generous prize money totalling around €100,000. The fastest juniors also have the great opportunity to qualify for the ADAC Opel Rally Junior Team 2022 in a screening and step onto the international rally stage in the new Opel Corsa Rally4. The age limit of 25 to qualify for the Junior classification has been raised to 26 years (born in 1995 or later) for the first season. This means that the young drivers who already wanted to register in the Junior classification for the planned “Super Season” 2020/2021 will not be disadvantaged by the Corona-caused postponement of the start of the Cup.
Opel Motorsport Director Jörg Schrott is looking forward to the debut of the world’s first electric one-make rally cup: “Despite difficult conditions in recent months, the development of the Opel Corsa-e Rally and the design of the debut season of the ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup have progressed so far that we can look forward to a successful start in the spring. We are convinced that we can put together an appealing package for participants and fans alike to show that electric rallying is not only sustainable but also absolutely fascinating.”
“We have managed to put together an attractive schedule for the first season of the ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup,” adds Thomas Voss, Head of Motorsport at ADAC. “The participants can expect a good mix of races in the German Rally Championship and national R70 events. We have put together an exciting package for the participants, with an interesting calendar, a well-filled purse of prize-money and a sustainable plan for promoting up-coming talents. We are now looking forward to the start of the season next spring”
