Cool protection

The high-performance engines of the current BMW S 1000 RR and S 1000 XR need both water and oil coolers to maintain a healthy temperature balance. For an effective air flow to cool the engine, these are optimally arranged in the air stream. The water cooler requires a larger surface area due to the higher throughput and is therefore located above the smaller oil cooler. Due to their exposed installation position, however, the filigree fins of both cooler systems are exposed to stone chips, sharp-edged foreign objects and insects without protection. Insects clog the cooler and reduce the cooling capacity just as much as fins deformed by stone chips or other foreign objects. In the worst case, leaks can occur. With a damaged cooler, it is not possible to continue riding under any circumstances.

It is therefore necessary to protect both coolers and their cooling circuits against mechanical damage and reduced cooling capacity in order to ensure optimum air flow and cooling performance.

The water cooler protection

The water cooler protection covers the front silhouette of the cooler perfectly, so that the direct impact of foreign objects and insects on the sensitive cooler net is reduced or avoided. It reliably protects the cooler without – and this is important – reducing the air flow.

The oil cooler protection

The oil cooler protection from Wunderlich protects the oil cooler, which is located directly behind the front wheel and thus in its spreading area. Here, whirled up dirt, stones and foreign objects may be accelerated by the front wheel before hitting the filigree fins of the oil cooler and hit the unprotected cooler net with even higher energy.
